Organic sweet lupin flour 1 kg - Lupin protein 39 %
What is organic sweet lupin flour and what does "toasted" mean?
The lupin is an ancient cultivated plant and was already an important staple food for the indigenous peoples of South America. It is a legume. The original varieties contained a high proportion of bitter substances, but this has been reduced by modern breeding. These new varieties were therefore given the name sweet lupins. The roasted fruits were formerly used to produce a kind of coffee substitute. Sweet lupin flour, on the other hand, is made from the seeds. To make this flour tastier, it is also toasted. It is, of course, available in the best organic quality.
Our sweet lupin flour is also very loose, as it is not pressed into the bags. This means it absorbs water more quickly.
It also contains 39 % lupin protein.
What is the ecological balance of this product?
The plant is native to our region, it thrives very well and has the advantage that it enriches the soil with nitrogen from the air via its roots, thus improving the soil. Because it is grown locally, the transportation routes are also short - compared to soy imported from distant countries - and therefore more environmentally friendly.
What are the most important ingredients?
The product is characterized by its particularly high content of valuable vegetable protein, which is in no way inferior to that of soy. This makes it an ecologically correct, regional alternative to soy of equal quality. Compared to wholemeal wheat flour, organic sweet lupin flour contains almost four times more protein. The protein in sweet lupin contains eight important amino acids. The glycemic index is comparable to that of soy.
Is it suitable for vegetarians / vegans?
This food is ideal for vegetarians, vegans and anyone who wants to follow a health-conscious, low-meat or meat-free diet. Note for allergy sufferers: Sweet lupins belong to the legume family and are therefore related to other legumes such as beans and peas. If you have an allergy to them, you should consult your doctor beforehand.
Sweet lupin flour is an alkalizing agent and therefore contributes to a balanced acid-base balance.
How is it used?
If you want to bake with it, you can even save an egg or two in the recipe, as the flour has a very high fat content and this helps the dough to bind. Rule of thumb for baked goods: up to 15% of the total amount of flour can be replaced by this valuable food.
If you want to avoid soy flour, you can simply replace it with the same amount of sweet lupin flour. It can be stirred into juices or smoothies, mixed with water as a kind of protein shake, used as a binding agent, stirred into soups or even used as an ingredient in a salad dressing. Or how about a homemade spread, for example made from tomato paste, olive oil, sweet lupin flour, various spices and chopped cashew nuts? Vegan or vegetarian patties made from this flour, oat flakes, chopped onions, spices and finely grated vegetables, such as carrots, make a delicious change. Lupin flour is also very popular in protein breads.
In addition to organic sweet lupin flour, you will also find organic sweet lupin seeds and organic lupin coffee in our range.
