What exactly is spelt bran?

Spelt bran is a by-product of grain production. After sieving out the seed and fruit husks, the aleurone layer and the germ, extremely high-fiber components remain. It is therefore all the more surprising that the nutritional benefits of bran were first recognized by the wholefood movement.

Bran from conventionally grown cereals

Cereals from conventional farming are contaminated with pesticides. As these residues are concentrated in the outer layers of the grain, it is important to consider whether eating contaminated bran does more harm than good. As with conventional fruit or vegetables, it is probably advisable to remove the husk and use it for other purposes. The bran is then often used as animal feed in conventional livestock farming. In this way, the questionable substances end up in the consumer's stomach via the meat. To avoid this danger, it is definitely worth paying attention to the origin and cultivation method of the grain. After all, bran that makes a real contribution to our health can only be produced from grain that comes from organic or Demeter cultivation.

Use of bran

To benefit from the advantages of bran, it is advisable to eat it regularly. Spelt bran can be added to muesli or stirred into yoghurt. However, the most charming way to use it is in bread dough, which is then used to bake a wonderfully fragrant and wholesome loaf of bread. This is a wonderful way to combine daily bread enjoyment with a healthy diet.
But bran is also used in cosmetic care products. So if you want to do something for your own well-being and vital radiance both inside and out, you can also pamper yourself with a bran bath, bran peeling and bran mask.
