What exactly is spelt bran?

Spelt bran is a by-product of grain production. After sieving out the seed and fruit husks, the aleurone layer and the germ, extremely high-fiber components remain. These also contain many valuable minerals. It is therefore all the more surprising that the nutritional and physiological benefits of bran were first recognized by the wholefood movement.

What are the health benefits of eating bran?

The swelling capacity and mucilage-forming components of bran are important for keeping our digestive organs healthy. Sufficient fluid intake is necessary for this effect to develop fully. Nutritional researchers have shown that substances from the aleurone layer of the wheat seed can reduce the risk of bowel cancer. Similar results can be expected with related types of cereal bran.
